The march gathered around 3,000 people on the Ipanema beach, according to the organizers, and 1,500 according to the Military Police. The Marijuana March is part of the Global Marijuana March, a worldwide event held every year simultaneously in 232 cities. In Brazil, it happens since 2002 when the first march took place in Ipanema, in Rio de Janeiro.
