The Congress was organized by the American feminist organization Women's Environment and Development Organization - WEDO, and was part of the preliminary meetings for the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development - ECO-92. Attended by about 500 participants from over eighty countries, the Congress approved the ‘Women's Action Agenda 21 for a Healthy Planet’. Bella Abzug, American founder of the feminist Women's Environment and Development Organization - WEDO, during a presentation at the World Congress of Women for a Healthy Planet.
