Olympia Angélica de Almeida Cotta, popularly known as Sinhá Olímpia, was a notable figure in the historic Brazilian city of Ouro Preto. Born in 1889 in Santa Rita Durão, in the district of Mariana, she became well-known for wandering the streets and sharing stories, often requesting some money in return. Seen by Rita Lee as the first "hippie" in Brazil, Sinhá Olímpia inspired the poetry of Carlos Drummond de Andrade and the music of Milton Nascimento. Today, she is a cultural icon, with her legacy celebrated in various establishments across Ouro Preto, Mariana, and the surrounding region, including samba schools, inns, and restaurants. Her unique storytelling and vibrant presence have left a lasting impact on the cultural landscape of this historic area.
