The event is organized by merchants from Mercadão de Madureira who leave in a motorcade from Madureira to Copacabana where they perform rituals and offerings are deposited for Yemanjá. The party takes place every year on December 29, since 2003, and is part of the official calendar of festivities in the city of Rio de Janeiro
