The Parade, organized by the Arco-Íris Group of LGBT Citizenship, had the support of several government agencies at the federal, state and municipal levels, and brought together about 1.2 million participants on  Copacabana beachside. Its motto was “Homophobia - criminalization now”, supporting the approval of the bill 122/2006 that criminalizes homophobia. As of that year, the acronym LGBT was incorporated instead of GLBT as in previous demonstrations.
