The conference brought together approximately 800 women representatives of the 44 member countries of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean - CEPAL. The central theme was: What kind of state? What kind of equality?
The Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean is a subordinate body of CEPAL and takes place every three years. Its main objective is to provide a forum for the debate on gender issues, to present public policy recommendations, and to evaluate the enforcement of regional agreements and plans, taking into consideration the needs of women.
