About 20,000 people followed, at Cinelândia Square, the Electoral College’s voting session when Tancredo Neves was elected President of Brazil. When the 344th vote was cast, by São Paulo PMDB Congressman João Cunha, ensuring Tancredo Neves’ victory, the crowd celebrated with a shower of shredded paper, a great firework display and, finally, held hands to sing the National Anthem.
