Poverty Day activity organized by Brazil, the Southern Cone and REPEM (Popular Education Network among Women from Latin America and the Caribbean). At the microphone, D. Raimunda, one of the founders of the Interstate Movement of Babassu Breakers (MIQCB), established in 1991, and active in the Brazilian states of Pará, Tocantins, Piauí and Maranhão.

The Latin American and Caribbean Tent, one of the five regional tents at the NGO Forum, was a space for Latin American and Caribbean women to hold debates, meetings, workshops and cultural activities. The planned activities were grouped by theme, and each day a different region or network was responsible for coordinating the events. The other regions to have tents at the NGO Forum were: Africa, Arab World, Asia-Pacific, and Europe-North America. The NGO Forum was held in the city of Huairou from 30th August to 8th September, 1995 and brought together about 30,000 people, of which 554 Brazilian women, the largest delegation from Latin America.
